Frequently Asked Questions — Florida Parenting Class

What parenting class do I need to take in Florida?

It depends on your situation. If your case involves divorce, custody, or paternity with minor children, you need the Co-Parenting Class. Florida officially calls this the “Parent Education and Family Stabilization Course.” This is the class required by § 61.21, and Putting Kids First is approved by the Florida DCF to offer it.

If you were referred by a judge, DCF, CPS, a therapist, probation officer, or your child’s school for parenting skills, you need the Parenting Class.

If your court papers say “parent education and family stabilization course” or “parenting class,” you need the Co-Parenting Class. That is what the majority of Florida parents need.

Is Putting Kids First approved by the Florida DCF?

Yes. Putting Kids First is approved by the Florida Department of Children and Families to offer the Parent Education and Family Stabilization Course under Chapter 61.21, F.S. and Administrative Rule 65C-32, F.A.C. Our class, instructors, and content have been reviewed and approved by the state.

How long do I have to complete the Florida parenting class?

Florida has strict deadlines. The petitioner (person who filed) must complete the class within 45 days of filing. The respondent (person who was served) must complete it within 45 days of being served. In paternity actions, similar deadlines apply. The class itself takes 4 hours and can be completed in one session or over several days. Do not wait — the court cannot enter a final judgment until both parents file their certificate.

Is this class accepted by all Florida courts?

Yes. Our certificate is accepted by all 67 Florida county circuit courts, including Miami-Dade, Broward, Hillsborough, Orange, Duval, Palm Beach, Pinellas, Lee, Polk, and Volusia. Each certificate includes a QR code and unique verification code so the court can confirm its authenticity in seconds.

Do both parents have to take the class?

Yes. Florida law requires both parents to complete the class separately. The court cannot enter a final judgment until both parents file their certificate of completion. Each parent registers with their own account and receives their own certificate. You do not need to coordinate schedules.

What happens if I don’t complete the class on time?

The court can hold you in contempt, deny you shared parental responsibility, or deny you time-sharing with your children. Your case cannot move forward until both parents complete the class. Do not risk your case or your relationship with your children. The class takes 4 hours and can be completed today.

When do I get my certificate?

Your certificate is generated instantly when you complete the class. It is a PDF you can download, print, or email. File it with the clerk of court where your case was filed, or hand it directly to the judge at your next hearing. If you have an attorney, you can forward it to them for filing.
